HotPlate is a company with a mission: to serve the community and help reduce food waste by being a platform that empowers both businesses and individuals to donate leftover food to those in need. People often end up with leftovers, whether it be fully cooked meals or leftover ingredients. A lot of the time, those leftovers become trash and fill up our already overcrowded dumps. With the HotPlate app, food recovery is easy! Based on location, the app identifies local charities so that extra food can be donated to them and redistributed to those in need.

Branding Elements

Despite the United States of America being a modern and technologically advanced country, it’s still plagued by a major problem — hunger. Annually, the U.S. wastes $165 billion of food. Research shows that individuals who live health conscious lives and have a healthy diet are the most wasteful. Foods that are thrown out the most include fresh produce and fruit followed by dairy and meats.
Similar organizations to HotPlate include City Meals on Wheels and Second Harvest Food Bank. While these programs do a great job of getting food to those in need, they typically don’t accept cooked food for liability reasons. These organizations also tend to only be available in larger cities and cannot serve more rural areas as easily. HotPlate makes the donation process a lot easier for everyone involved and accepts food that other organizations do not.
Early Lo-Fi Wireframes
When developing the UI for this application, it was very important to me to figure out not only all of the key features needed, but to also consider the user and the most ideal paths they'd want to take when onboarding and using the app. It is extremely necessary that the flow is easy, light, and does not interfere with the user having an incredible navigation experience.
