UCF’s Theatre Department held a poster contest for their 2017 Summer Season, and this design was chosen as the winner for the play Seminar. Seminar comically tells the story of a world-famous writer named Leonard who, as part of weekly private teaching seminars, critiques the work of four young aspiring novelist: Martin, Kate, Douglas, and Izzy. During the seminars he "shreds the egos of his students" by constantly insulting them, manipulating them, and causing them to fight for his validation. In the end, Leonard ultimately declares one pupil to be a better writer than the rest.

For this poster, I wanted to visually show just how manipulative Leonard is, so I did my own take on the classic puppet on a string trope. Leonard looms over the paper dolls that represent each student and is cutting away at them. Each paper cutout has four adjectives which describe each pupil that after watching the play gives a whole new perspective on the poster.
